guys, what's up?

I've just been out for a drink with my landlady who has inadvertently confirmed for me a baffling pattern. She is, as far as I can see, the archetypal eligible bachelorette. She's cute, slim, blond, wealthy (and no, she doesn't read this blog) and everybody she dates will not commit to her. I have heard the same story from 5 equally dateable women this weekend. One split with a long term partner because after 7 years he refused to move in with her. What's going on? I don't get why there seems to be such laissez faire around at the moment. If the financial crisis is as bad as it looks, we're all going to need bed buddies for warmth if nothing else this winter. Time to cosy up, I would have thought...

is she high maintenance? Most blokes (this one at least) can't be arsed with women who are too much like hard work.

hmm depends what you mean by high maintenance?

Hard work? Histrionic? Highly strung? Self obsessed? A perfectionist?

Any of the above are enough to set the batshitcrazy meters running, and more than one tend to push it off the chart

I've just come out of a relationship with a commitment phobe. I don't get it, what happened to men that were willing to fight for their women?

I think I've only ever met one in my life and he lives on the opposite side of the world. Bloody great that is!

mkononi - sounds like a certain crazy someone you knew in the old days! ;)

Gretta - I really don't get it. But i think you're right not to stick around. Tell him to get his ass over here! x

More than one I can assure you :)

As for commitment phobes, just find another guy and move on - I'm sure it's his loss - just try and identify them early in the relationship so you don't waste time on them.

i think the problem is that you get caught in this cycle of thinking they will commit eventually... it's like waiting for a bus, the longer you wait the more loathe you are to walk away in case it's around the corner. I know that's how I've felt in the past. I was so amazed by how straightforward MC was about the whole relationship thing. I was so used to the whole three months in, are we or aren't we type scenario.

Zuzula send them my way, single non-commitment phobic man here!

Hmmm .... she does have a slight element of the crazy about her Zu ;-) But yes, you are completely right about the whole darn scenario!

As for City Boy's suggestion. Perhaps you should send him my way for BaSF?!

xx

Not that I think most women are any better at commitment than most men...

i think lots of men are becoming more and more committment phobic...the media doesnt help (especially with all these celebrity divorces going on all the time)
